I'm really glad, that I've got the chance to sit in, and participate in World Issues: A SG Perspective (WISP) this semester.
Had another lesson today, and we spoke about,
A Women's Worth;
How much, exactly, does a woman worth, and then, we looked specifically into the plight of Mail Order brides, hailing from places like Vietnam.
We've watched a couple of videos, and honestly, the class was different, before and after watching the videos. We were more solemn. It's like, the goofiness, and our ability to talk is sucked out of the class. Only our lecturer was talking, and commenting after it. This was not the case in previous sessions, well, I guess, we all saw for ourselves, the ugly side of humanity today.
Men in their 30s, 40s, 50s, and even 60s, are "buying" foreign brides for a sum of SGD$8000, and usually, they are looking for young, virginal brides as wives, to basically,
a) Bear them children
b) Clean their houses, do their chores
c) You know what they want, when they're shopping for their virginity above everything else.
In the video, the girl, was only, 18 years old, a year younger than me!
And she had to leave her village, in search of a better life, to escape poverty.
So all she wants is someone who loves her, and take care of her needs.
But, what love is there, when, that guy basically picked you from a catalogue, and judges you, based on your looks, age, figure, and virginity.
God, I know the word "virginity" is popping up alot in this post; but, gosh, they're so selfish! Why in the world, would they want a virgin bride, when they've probably got tons of experience under their belts.
I'm being judegmental and stereotypical here, but, the mental image I have of these men is just; waaayy down there.
What love is there, when the both of them, have basically only met for 2 days, with maybe, even zero communication due to the language barrier?
And, why SGD$8000?
Is that how much she is worth?
Priceless. That's how much a person costs.
One, does not use money, to buy love, to get a bride.
You certainly do not bring her home, and ill treat her,
Treat her as your domestic help, as your sex slave, a baby making machine so that some poor child out there, has got your FAMILY name.
One certainly does not buy another, and use her as a punching bag.
The domestic violence that some of these girls face; is what gets to me most.
It's so sad that they see themselves getting out of a horrible situation in their life, to basically live in a living nightmare which they had unknowingly, sign up for.

So much so that we can't afford to be sick;
This is something which dawned on me this morning; when I woke up with the worst kind of feeling in my throat ever.
Didn't even hesitate for a moment, before heading to the showers to get ready for school;
"The body is willing, but the flesh is weak;" pretty much sums up how I felt;
Trudged down to the dining room and told my mom I would want to rest today...
Pathetically enough, Monday's the only day which I can afford to be sick; No offense; but it's much easier to catch up with my work in Business Communications and Service Quality as compared to Marketing, Management and the likes:S
Aw, this feeling of hopelessness; (that time is not enough), is enough to make me sick; again. Hahaha.
Then again, what else do you expect to get out of Final Year isn't it?!(:

So Halloween came and went, but this year; was the first time, that I've done ANYTHING, about it(:
Decided to play dress up when I went school on Friday, because I know that there will be crazier people out there, than me(:
My theme was BALLERINA; of course(:
I love seeing people in their masks, and hats, and face paints; it's just super festive, and it really brings out the kid in us(:
Was chatting with Harrison online, during STMO tutorial and guess what?! His professor was so supportive of Halloween, that any student that wear a costume gets 2 extra credits! How wonderful right?!:D
I LOVE, LOVE MY MICKEY WIZARD(:
The EAST SIDERS went out for supper that night; and of course I'm glad I've got a chance to be a little crazier; hahah! It made me feel like going clubbing; but owells; I've got next Halloween:D Haha!
But of course, it made me miss Hsimending so much; remember there were ghouls walking around?! I LOVE THEM; they look a hundred times scarier than anything I've seen this Halloween(:

I've always had this fantasy of baking my very own birthday cake; not necessary A birthday cake; but just, those kind of cakes where you have to slab on layers of cream, and fruits, chocolates and icing(:
I've finally, had (one of) my dream(s) come true!
Went over to Evon's (my baby cousin) place last Saturday at Khatib; and we had a great time; baking; well she actually did most of the work since she's doing a Pastry course in school.
Of course, while waiting for the batter to bake, we had a blast, doing "piping", or more commonly known as ICING, to us layman; it's not as easy as it seems; but once you get the hang of it, it's reallly fun!
I was SUPER impressed with my cake; REALLY. The colors, the design, how CUTE the final product was!
Well, but unfortunately, something went haywire in the process and the sponge cake had the... same taste as, a layered cake, if you get what I mean.
BUT STILL! It's my PRETTY, PRETTY, STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE!
Was telling Harrison that I could finally, try bake something for him for his birthday! I was like; totally blown away when I saw the apple thing; which Yvonne, not Evon, baked him for his birthday last year! It was fantastic!
But of course, I'll still be in love with the very first birthday cake which Esther made me for my 19th!((:
EDIT: YES, and Audrey and Rachel were involved in the baking of my pretty cake tooooo!

Went to Fairprice; yes, I know right(: LOL, and when I saw the cutesy hats; I just plonked them on my head immediately!
My auntie asked me to hold the pitch fork for extra fun! Haha! (Excuse me for my weird; smile. LOL.)
HAPPY HALLLOWEEEN!
Can't wait to see the crazy costumes in school tomorrow!
